Kylian Mbappe has been the undisputed leader of the Real Madrid attack this season, improving from an already impressive debut campaign that saw him win the Pichichi trophy and the European Golden Boot.

As we near the halfway point of the campaign, Mbappe has racked up 25 goals in 20 competitive matches this season. He also scored one goal in the FIFA Club World Cup. He has already received the backing of Wesley Sneijder to win the Ballon d’Or next year.

Mbappe’s performances this season are a continuation of his brilliant form in the year 2025. Indeed, 21 of Mbappe’s 31 goals last season came in 2025. If we add goals from all competitions, the Frenchman has racked up 55 goals this term.

Closing in on Ronaldo’s record

Thanks to his blistering scoring record for Real Madrid in this calendar year, Mbappe is now tantalisingly close to beating Cristiano Ronaldo’s tally.

In 2013, the Portuguese international had scored 59 goals for Real Madrid in a calendar year. It was considered an impossible record to break, with even Ronaldo failing to meet similar level of performance during the remainder of his Real Madrid career.

But Mbappe can beat Ronaldo’s record if he manages to score five goals for Los Blancos in this month of December.

The former PSG superstar has four games to meet that tally, starting with Real Madrid’s upcoming game slated against Celta Vigo on Sunday.

Overall, Mbappe will play three matches in La Liga and one game in the Champions League, where he will take on Manchester City.

The three league games against Celta Vigo, Sevilla and Alaves could be an ideal opportunity for the France captain to beat this record held by the Merengues’ all-time leading goalscorer.

This is not the first time Mbappe will be breaking Ronaldo’s record. In the most recent win over Olympiacos, the Frenchman broke Ronaldo’s record to score the second fastest hat-trick in the UCL history, second only to Mohamed Salah.
