PHILADELPHIA -- The Philadelphia 76ers found themselves in a position they shouldn't have been in against the Golden State Warriors on Thursday night. The Sixers saw a 24-point lead slip away and the Warriors had the game in their grasp as they led 98-97 with 14.2 seconds left.
After a series of reviews with challenges by both sides, the Warriors had the ball with 10.1 seconds left. The Sixers' guards then made plays to win the game. VJ Edgecombe stole the inbounds pass with 8.2 seconds left. Then, after Tyrese Maxey was blocked by former Sixers guard De'Anthony Melton, Edgecombe tracked down the rebound, and tipped it in with 0.9 seconds left to give Philadelphia a 99-98 lead with 0.9 seconds left.

"For me, it was more so give the ball to Tyrese and get out the way," Edgecombe said. "I know he’s gonna make a play. They sent a double team at him, but I trust him. I trust him with the game on the line every given night, I trust him. Tonight, it looked like he got fouled. I’ll say it was a foul, yeah. No call, so I tracked the rebound, tried to make a play, and he made a helluva play blocking the shot because he had a clean layup...credit Tyrese, and he blocked it, by the way. He blocked it."
Maxey and Edgecombe teamed up for an improbable win with the Sixers needing all of it to get the job done. Philadelphia was in a position it shouldn't been in, but those two were able to step and lead the way.
"That was an amazing play," Maxey said of Edgecombe. "He made a helluva play. For him to go out there and track the ball and tip it in like that, it was a great play."
For Maxey, he had to chase down a close friend in Melton to get the seal the win for Philadelphia. After Edgecombe made the play he did, Melton leaked out, and Maxey was determined to not let him win the game for the Warriors.

Like, he was at my house for two-to-three hours yesterday just talking about life and stuff. I’m happy to see him out there, he’s smiling. I told him I’ll give him one jump shot because he was struggling early. I gave him one middy, but I’m just happy he was out there, man. It was good to see him and I told him he can’t guard me so it’s all good."
The Sixers will now head to Milwaukee to take on the Bucks on Friday on the second night of a back-to-back.
