Anime has produced an extraordinary range of powerhouses, from reality-warping godlike figures to battle-hardened icons that continuously push past their limits. Over time, anime fans have debated the strength, scale, and impact of characters within the medium, sparking community-wide discussions over who rightfully earned the title of the strongest anime character in existence.
With countless anime to explore, there are plenty of characters who stand out in comparison to others; however, only one can claim the position of the strongest anime character to exist. Whether coming from humble beginnings or destined for greatness, these characters have become some of the strongest and most memorable characters in all of anime.
Satoru Gojo (Jujutsu Kaisen)
Satoru Gojo is a central figure in Jujutsu Kaisen, widely regarded as the strongest sorcerer in the series. His role is mentoring the next generation of jujutsu sorcerers as a teacher at Tokyo Jujutsu High while simultaneously confronting deadly curses and dangerous threats. He’s known for his confident, charismatic, yet playful attitude, making him both compelling and relatable.
His power primarily comes from his unique combination of two rare techniques, Limitless, which manipulates space, and Six Eyes, which grants him nearly perfect cursed energy perception and efficiency. Six Eyes allows Gojo to use Limitless to its fullest potential, allowing him to control the infinity between himself and his opponents, making himself untouchable.
Beyond raw strength, Gojo’s intellect makes him stand out from others. He can analyze threats in real time, exploit weaknesses, and execute complex techniques with immense precision. His blend of overwhelming power, intellect, and confidence makes him a fearsome sorcerer in Jujutsu Kaisen and earns him a place among anime’s strongest.
Monkey D. Luffy (One Piece)

Monkey D. Luffy is the captain of the Straw Hat Pirates in One Piece, traveling the Grand Line in search of the legendary One Piece with the goal of becoming the next Pirate King. He’s best known for his unwavering optimism, fierce loyalty, and, most of all, his refusal to back down against injustice.
Luffy’s powers originate from the Gum-Gum Devil Fruit, which turns his body into rubber, granting him immense durability and stretchiness. Over the course of his journey, he’s developed powerful forms such as Gear 4 and, most recently, Gear 5, which gives him reality-bending, cartoonish abilities that redefine his combat potential.
Yhwach (Bleach)
Yhwach as seen in Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War
Yhwach is the primary antagonist of the final arc in Bleach, best known as the progenitor of the Quincy and a nearly unstoppable force. He commands legions of loyal followers and seeks to reshape the world according to his own vision by merging the human world, Soul Society, and Hueco Mundo together.
Much of his strength lies in The Almighty, a power that allows him to see all possible futures and choose the one he wishes to occur. Along with his mastery of Quincy techniques and the ability to absorb and redistribute abilities from others, he can overwhelm opponents with his foresight and devastating attacks.
Sung Jinwoo (Solo Leveling)
Sung Jinwoo is the central protagonist of the hit series Solo Leveling. Initially known as the world’s weakest hunter, Jinwoo’s life forever changes after a near-fatal experience, and he’s granted the mysterious System. With it, he’s given the ability to level up and gain new skills, eventually leading him to become the Shadow Monarch.
With his power, he can absorb shadows, raise fallen enemies, teleport, and command an army of shadow soldiers. By the end of the series, he becomes a godlike figure capable of immense feats, possessing agelessness and dimensional manipulation, making him a force capable of confronting cosmic-level threats.
Jinwoo grows far beyond his initial role as an E-rank hunter, with his strategic mind and quick adaptability making him all the more formidable. As the next Shadow Monarch, Jinwoo has the power to regenerate from universal-level attacks, is immune to erasure, and capable of battling for years at a time, making him one of the most impressive modern anime characters.
Goku (Dragon Ball)
Goku is the legendary Saiyan warrior and central hero in the Dragon Ball franchise. His journey starts with his childhood learning martial arts and ends with him becoming the protector of the universe. He’s best known for his cheerful, naive personality and insatiable love for combat, constantly pushing his limits to new heights.
His enduring optimism and courage make him beloved by fans across the globe and an inspiration to fans and creators alike. His legendary Super Saiyan transformation influenced countless other works, even beyond anime, cementing him as an anime icon. Since then, his power has only continued to evolve, gaining new transformations and abilities, including Ultra Instinct.
Goku’s constant drive for growth makes him one of anime’s most powerful and most well-known characters. He constantly adapts mid-fight and breaks through every perceived limitation, placing him among the most formidable fighters in any universe.
Saitama (One-Punch Man)
Saitama is the protagonist of One-Punch Man, and as the title suggests, he is known for defeating his opponents with a single punch. Despite his unassuming appearance, he is the most powerful character in his world, known best for his detached yet humorous personality, making him a unique hero in anime.
His power is unparalleled and rooted in an exaggerated, near-limitless physical capability. Saitama is very much a gag character, making his superhuman strength, speed, and reflexes practically unmatched and invincible. He challenges conventional combat logic with his feats surpassing natural, planetary, and even cosmic scales, allowing him to stand among the most powerful of anime characters.
Anos Voldigoad (The Misfit of Demon King Academy)
Anos Voldigoad (The Misfit of Demon King Academy)
Anos Voldigoad is the reincarnated Demon King and central character of The Misfit of Demon King Academy. Anos gave up his life to secure peace among the four races after growing weary of battle, deciding to reincarnate after 2,000 years. When he finally is, he finds that his descendants have grown weak and that he has been labeled a misfit.
He has immense power that combines reality manipulation, regeneration, and near-limitless magical ability. Anos has the power to annihilate armies, rewrite events, and resurrect the dead, all while overpowering opponents who might challenge him or others of his kind. Paired with his mastery over time and space, he ensures that no conventional threat can match him in power.
Rimuru Tempest (That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime)
Rimuru Tempest is the protagonist of That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime, who begins their journey as an ordinary human before being reborn into a fantastical world as a slime. Through their curiosity, intelligence, and empathy, Rimuru goes on to build a thriving nation called the Jura Tempest Federation.
Their power is extraordinary and unique, rooted in the ability to absorb, mimic, and evolve from anything they encounter. Rimuru can replicate abilities, reshape matter, and wield reality-altering energy. By the story’s end, Rimuru attains a near-omnipotent state, capable of influencing multiversal events and challenging godlike beings.
Madoka Kaname (Puella Magi Madoka Magica)
Madoka as a Goddess after making her wish in Madoka Magica's finale
Madoka Kaname is the protagonist of Puella Magi Madoka Magica, and starts her journey as an ordinary girl who is known for her kindness and empathy. Over the course of the story, she transitions into a cosmic figure that embodies both hope and sacrifice for magical girls everywhere, across any time. Madoka becomes elevated into a conceptual, godlike being.
When she becomes the Law of Cycles, Madoka transforms into a metaphysical force that governs fate itself, allowing her to rewrite reality, erase curses, and intervene in life-and-death events with nearly absolute authority. Her powers go beyond conventional limits, placing her among anime’s strongest characters to ever exist.
Usagi Tsukino (Sailor Moon)
Usagi Tsukino is the central character of the hit franchise Sailor Moon. She’s the titular character who gains the power to transform into the Sailor Guardian, Sailor Moon, to fight against dark, evil forces that threaten Earth. Throughout the series, she grows into a confident leader and a cosmic protector, becoming a symbol of hope across the universe.
Sailor Moon’s power grows immensely throughout the series, eventually culminating in her final incarnation as Sailor Cosmos, a godlike being who possesses power beyond the imaginable. She becomes practically omnipotent with the ability to influence timelines, rewrite reality, regenerate from nothing, endlessly battle against god-tier enemies, and have authority over concepts themselves, including death.
As Sailor Cosmos, Usagi has multi-universal awareness, allowing her to perceive all of time, space, timelines, and potential futures, and to influence these universes. In short, Sailor Moon’s final form essentially turns her into a god, cementing her status as one of the most iconic, powerful, and unforgettable characters in anime history.
