With a mind like a steel trap, he's an endless fount of movie and TV trivia, borne from a misspent youth of watching monster movies on TV, perusing the sun-faded goods at the local video rental shop, and staining his fingers with ink from the Video Movie Guide. Areas of interest include science fiction, film noir, horror flicks, '70s disaster pictures, Bond movies, '90s action, giant robots, dinosaurs, super heroes, and the exuberantly schlocky output of Cannon Films. He also enjoys both Star Trek and Star Wars when they're good, and maybe even more when they're bad. As a Canadian, he also has a vested interest in Canadian movies and TV shows, especially the cheesier ones dubbed "Canuxploitation." An expert on Marvel Comics, he has also written for the Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe, and is a member of the Marvel Research Team. He can frequently be found pontificating on comic-book continuity or bemoaning the misfortunes of the Toronto Maple Leafs on his Twitter account. The Order of Assassins has its first recruit. The Bikeriders' Toby Wallace will star in the upcoming Assassin's Creed TV series, the latest on-screen adaptation of the long-running Ubisoft video game franchise. There's no word yet on the role Wallace will play on the series, which will stream on Netflix. Wallace is said to be a co-lead on the series, which means that more casting announcements are on the horizon.

According to reports, the series is set to begin production in Italy in 2026; the country will serve as the setting for the globe-trotting franchise, at least for its first season. The British-born Australian Wallace is a rising star, with memorable roles in Finestkind, Eden, and Babyteeth. This year, he appeared in Justin Lin's Last Days, about the doomed missionary John Allen Chau and his attempt to spread Christianity to the uncontacted Sentinelese tribe. Next up, he's set to star in the upcoming third (and possibly final) season of HBO's controversial teen drama Euphoria. He's also signed on to star with Ben Mendelsohn in the horror film Fear Is the Rider, and the drama Sister Maria Goes to Rome, with Thomasin McKenzie.

What Is 'Assassin's Creed' About?

Assassin's Creed centers around two warring ancient organizations: the Order of Assassins, who believe in protecting human freedom, and the Knights Templar, who wish to guide humanity towards order. The two factions are in a race to locate the Pieces of Eden, powerful artifacts that will allow them to enact their plans. The first several games of the franchise revolve around Desmond Miles (Nolan North), a descendant of several noted Order of Assassins members throughout history; he is captured by the Templars and placed in the Animus, a machine that projects him back in time into the body of one of his ancestors.

The series has been wildly successful, both financially and with critics, and has encompassed a wide variety of time periods, from the Crusades to the Golden Age of Piracy to feudal Japan. The series was previously adapted into a film in 2016, with Michael Fassbender, Marion Cotillard, and Jeremy Irons; it underperformed with critics and at the box office, putting an end to a planned big-screen franchise. Netflix's Assassin's Creed will be showrun by Roberto Patino (Westworld) and David Wiener (Halo). They will also executive produce with Gerard Guillemot, Margaret Boykin, Austin Dill, Genevieve Jones for Ubisoft Film & Television, and Matt O’Toole.

Assassin's Creed is set to begin production next year; no release date has yet been announced. Stay tuned to Collider for future updates.
