Well that didn't take long. Brandin Cooks has chosen his new team after the New Orleans Saints granted his request to cut him. Cooks has landed with the Buffalo Bills, an AFC Super Bowl favorite, the team announced Tuesday afternoon. He'll have an opportunity to catch passes from Josh Allen and play meaningful football into December and January rather than help oversee a rebuild in New Orelans.
Good luck to him. But the Saints aren't out of the woods yet. The league office in New York rejected an amendment the Saints tried to make to Cooks' contract that functioned as a "poison pill" to keep other teams from claiming the wide receiver off of waivers. He wanted to choose his spot, and the Saints wanted to let him go.

Because the Saints and Cooks' representatives (and, potentially, the Bills) worked together to get around the rules and get him where he wanted to go, the NFL could investigate each party for tampering, which may cost them a draft pick. If the Saints had released Cooks sooner or, you know, traded him before the deadline made him eligible for waivers, they could have avoided this mess and maybe even gotten something back. Instead, Saints GM Mickey Loomis paid more than $8 million for Cooks to catch 19 passes and gain 165 yards.
