Jan. 13—SIOUX CITY, Iowa. — For the second straight week, the Dakota Wesleyan University basketball programs swept the Great Plains Athletic Conference defensive player of the week awards, as announced by the conference office on Monday.

Avery Broughton earned the honor on the women's side this week, while Randy Rosenquist Jr. collected back-to-back awards on the men's side.

Broughton, a Corsica native, led the Tigers in rebounds during both wins last week over Doane and Mount Marty, totaling 20 boards between the two contests. Against the Lancers, the 6-foot-1 junior guard also tied the program record with six blocks in a 79-50 win, adding 12 points and 12 rebounds in a double-double effort. She also recorded 17 points, eight boards, five assists, a steal and a block against Doane.

For the season, Broughton is averaging 13.5 points, 8.6 rebounds, 2.2 assists and a GPAC-leading 2.1 blocks per game.

It's the third time in five weeks that the DWU women have had the GPAC defensive player of the week, and the second award for Broughton, who also was tabbed on Dec. 1. Shalayne Nagel was honored on Jan. 5.

Rosenquist, a 6-foot junior guard, collected his third weekly defensive honor of the season, having also been named on Nov. 17 and Jan. 5. Last week, the North Sioux City native posted six rebounds, four assists and two steals in an overtime loss to Doane, then followed it up with a 24-point, 10-rebound double-double that included four assists and four steals against Mount Marty.

On the year, Rosenquist is averaging 13.5 points, 6.8 rebounds and 3.8 assists and a GPAC-best 3.2 steals per game.
