Aramco and French quantum computing firm Pasqal have unveiled Saudi Arabia’s first quantum computer — and the Middle East’s first system dedicated to industrial applications. Installed at Aramco’s Dhahran data center, the neutral-atom quantum computer represents a major milestone for the region’s technology landscape and a step toward developing homegrown quantum expertise.
The system, capable of controlling 200 qubits, will be used to explore complex industrial problems across the energy, materials, and manufacturing sectors. Aramco says the deployment supports its broader strategy to use advanced digital tools such as AI and quantum computing to enhance efficiency and unlock new value across its operations.
“This partnership marks a new frontier in computing,” said Ahmad O. Al-Khowaiter, Aramco’s Executive Vice President of Technology & Innovation. “Quantum technologies will open significant opportunities for energy innovation.”
Pasqal CEO Loïc Henriet called the project “a historic milestone,” highlighting it as the company’s most powerful quantum computer to date. Pasqal’s collaboration with Aramco builds on an earlier investment by Wa’ed Ventures, Aramco’s venture capital arm, which backed the French startup in 2023.
Alongside the deployment, Pasqal will provide training programs and joint research opportunities for Saudi engineers and scientists, strengthening the Kingdom’s growing quantum ecosystem.
