Two members of the National Guard were reportedly injured in a shooting near the White House, a law enforcement official told the Associated Press.
Gunfire was reported on Wednesday afternoon in downtown Washington, D.C. At least one suspect is in custody, according to local police. The White House is also on lockdown, Reuters reports.
The White House is monitoring the situation, and President Donald Trump has been briefed, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said.
Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem said her agency is working with law enforcement to gather more information.
