Nov. 26—GRAND FORKS — Four area players were selected to the North Dakota Class A all-state volleyball team, which was released by the North Dakota High School Coaches Association.
First team selections from the area included Grafton junior Julia Heidt, Thompson senior Kya Hurst and May-Port-C-G junior Paetyn Strand. May-Port-C-G senior Hudson Zerface was named to the all-state second team.
AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementHeidt, a setter-defensive specialist, had 755 assists this season, along with 190 digs and 67 kills.
Hurst, a libero with three years of varsity experience, had 710 digs this season for an average of 8.1 per set. Hurst added 41 aces this season.
In Hurst's career, she has 1,975 career digs in leading the Tommies to a 104-40 record in that span.
Strand and Zerface led the Patriots to the state championship last weekend in Bismarck.
Zerface, a libero, had 763 digs this year and now has 1,473 for her career. She added 51 aces and has 87 career aces.
Strand, a middle hitter, racked up 439 kills, 171 digs and 48 blocks.
Izzy Thompson of Central Cass was named the Class A state Outstanding Senior Athlete. Central Cass' Dana Stansbery was the Coach of the Year.
