Google's Pixel Studio app, which debuted with the Pixel 9 series last year, is finally making its way to the 2023-released Pixel 8 series. The app, which also made its way to the Pixel 10 by default, is now following in the footsteps of the Journal app.
Getting started with Pixel Studio is simple
Posts By Benjamin Zeman Nov 9, 2024For those unaware, the app, which essentially lets you create AI-generated art with prompts, also serves as an editor, letting you adjust and enhance existing images with relevant prompts. Now, alongside backporting the app to the Pixel 8, Google also seems to be rolling out additional functionality to the app.
The two developments were first highlighted by the folks over at 9to5Google after looking into the app's official support page.
Arrival on the Pixel 8
Although Google hasn't made an official announcement about the expansion yet, the app's support page, which was recently updated, suggests otherwise.
"Currently, Pixel Studio is only available on the Pixel 8 and later," reads the support page. Previously, the same sentence read, "Currently, Pixel Studio is only available on the Pixel 9 and later."
It's worth noting that despite what the page says, support for the Pixel 8 isn't live with the latest Pixel Studio build on the Play Store.
Pixel Studio gets 'Animate image'
Again, this hasn't been officially announced just yet, but the Pixel Studio app seems to be getting a new animation feature. This, too, made its way to the Pixel Studio support page.
Create an animation
Once you've created an image, you can animate it.
- Tap Animate image.
- Enter a prompt or select a suggested prompt above the text box.
- Once the animation is ready, you can add stickers or captions when you tap Add sticker or caption.
You can then copy, share, or download the animation as a GIF or WebP file.

It's worth noting that this feature did leak back in October (that's where the image above is from), but never made its way to the app. For what it's worth, animation support, too, isn't live with the latest Pixel Studio build, though considering the documentation on the tech giant's support page, we know it's coming sooner than later.
