Harrison Mevis says he likes his 'Thiccer Kicker' nickname

When the Los Angeles Rams added kicker Harrison Mevis to their roster, his college nickname immediately returned to the forefront of the NFL news cycle. Mevis, who played at Missouri in college and in the UFL, earned the title of "the Thiccer Kicker" because his 5-foot-11, 245-pound frame is bigger than typical players at his position.

Mevis didn't shy away from his nickname. Instead, the kicker explained that just by having one made him a relevant name to watch in the sports world.

"I like it," Mevis told the Rams' team website regarding his nickname. "When you look at it from a team's perspective, everyone around is like, 'Damn, that guy has a nickname? He must be a dude.' So it instills confidence in everyone around me that I'm gonna go out and do my job and make the kick, so I've always thought of it as a positive, and it's also fun."

This is the type of mentality the Rams have come to love from Mevis. He's hit all 13 of his extra points this season for L.A. and converted both field goal attempts in Week 12.

"He's been a cool customer, just comes in and goes to work, and I think he feels very grateful," Rams head coach Sean McVay said. "You can see, there's probably a healthy perspective that allows him to realize this is a blessing, it's never a burden. And I've been really pleased with what he's done."

For a Rams team that has struggled with its field goal kicking at times, receiving a nice boost of excitement is huge for a team building a lot of positive momentum in the latter portion of the season. L.A. is on a six-game winning streak and trending toward the No. 1 seed in the NFC playoffs in a few weeks.

Mevis will undoubtedly play a role in where the Rams end up this year.
