Florida State basketball, after a trio of tune-up games in Tallahassee, will hit the road once more to face off against an SEC opponent.

FSU (5-1) will take on the Texas A&M Aggies (5-2) in a neutral-site showdown in Tampa, playing inside Benchmark International Arena (formerly known as Amalie Arena).

It’s the first matchup between the two programs since a 57-50 Florida State win in the 2011 NCAA Tournament, with FSU holding a 3-1 series lead all-time.

Like FSU, Texas A&M has yet to win a game against a power conference opponent so far this season. The Aggies are 0-2 against major opponents so far in 2025, having dropped games to Oklahoma State and UCF, with the Seminoles’ sole loss being their 78-76 near-upset of Florida.

According to FanDuel, Florida State is a 1.5-point favorite with the over/under set at 167.5.

FSU vs. Texas A&M: Notes to know

  • This matchup features two of the nation’s most prolific offenses through the early part of the season — Texas A&M is averaging 93.4 points per game while FSU is averaging 93.2 — good enough for No. 20 and 21 in the nation, respectively. The Aggies, however, have struggled on defense, giving up 77.7 points per game (No. 258) with the Seminoles not too far behind at 70.3 (No. 121).

  • Texas A&M has been especially vulnerable from the three, with opponents averaging 42% from beyond the arc this season (47.9% in its last three games). FSU, leading the nation in 37.8 three-point attempts per game, is shooting 33.9% from beyond the arc, a figure heavily impacted by a poor showing in its last game against CSU Bakersfield.

  • The Aggies are also led by a first-year head coach in Bucky McMillian, who joined the Aggies after spending five years as Samford’s head coach — before which he spent 12 years as a high school coach.

  • Texas A&M is currently the No. 68 team (No. 65 offense, No. 88 defense) in the KenPom ratings, with Florida State at No. 58 (No. 84 offense, No. 36 defense).

  • Florida State is playing in Tampa for the first time since 2017, a 72-53 win over Tulane.

From FSU Sports Info:

  • Florida State is 7-2 in games played in Tampa since the start of the 1980-81 season. Included in the Seminoles’ recent ledger in Tampa is a 1-1 record (with a win over Clemson and a loss to North Carolina) in the 2007 ACC Tournament at the arena formerly known as St. Pete Times Forum (now the Benchmark International Arena). Florida State’s most recent game in Tampa came as a 72-53 win over Tulane in the arena formerly known as Amalie Arena (also now the Benchmark International Arena). The building, which opened on October 12, 1996, has been known as the Ice Palace (1996–2002); the St. Pete Times Forum (2002–2012); the Tampa Bay Times Forum (2012–2014); and Amalie Arena (2014–2025).

  • Florida State enters Friday’s game against Texas A&M with 72 steals and an ACC-leading 12.0 steals per game average. The Seminoles have totaled double-figure steals in three consecutive games (43 / 14.3 per game) and have earned double-figure steals in five of their first six games. Florida State is just one steal shy of earning double-figures in steals in each of its first six games after totaling nine steals at No. 10 Florida on Nov. 11, 2025.

  • Florida State enters Friday’s game against Texas A&M with twice as many total steals as its first six opponents (72-36), with more steals in each game than its first six opponents, and with double-figure steals in five of its first six games. The Seminoles have outscored each of their first six opponents in the points-off-turnovers category, outscored Cal State Bakersfield by a 40-11 margin, and have a 158-61 (26.3-10.2) margin of outscoring their opponents off turnovers in their first six games of the season.

From Texas A&M Sports Info:

  • Texas A&M notched its second-highest point total in program history and scored the most points in Reed Arena on Tuesday with a 120-84 win over Mississippi Valley State. The Aggies’ 42 made free throws are the second-most in a game all-time at Texas A&M.

  • Texas A&M ranks second in the nation and leads the SEC with an average of 47.0 bench points per game. The Aggies have recorded at least 30 bench points in every game this season, including a season-high 66 bench points in the win over the Delta Devils.

  • Texas A&M has capitalized on opponents’ miscues, scoring at least 19 points off turnovers in six of the team’s seven games, most recently tallying 46 points off 31 Mississippi Valley State turnovers.

Texas A&M Aggies: Players to know

  • Guard Rubén Dominguez: The first-year Aggies player arrived in College Station having already gotten plenty of high-level experience, both as part of Spain’s national team at U16 and U19 FIBA tournaments as well as bouncing around the professional system. He’s leading Texas A&M with 14.9 points per game, having set a school record for three pointers made in a game with 10 earlier this season.

  • Forward Rashaun Agee: If there’s one thing that Agee knows, it’s getting boards. Leading Texas A&M in rebounds per game (5.9), he was also adept at getting to the glass at USC (his previous stop) as well as at Bowling Green (where he averaged 9.9 rebounds per game).

  • Forward Mackenzie Mgbako: The Indiana transfer has played just two games for Texas A&M this season, having suffered a foot injury that required surgery in the offseason, but as he gets acclimated, he can elevate an offense that already had been rolling. A former McDonald’s All-American, he averaged 12.2 points per game last season for the Hooisers before transferring, flirting with the NBA Draft before finally opting to remain at Texas A&M.
