Playoff-bound Ole Miss hoped to avoid a coaching search and hold onto Lane Kiffin long-term, but it became clear as the season neared an end that such a scenario wasn't feasible.
AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementAfter weeks of flirting with other jobs, Kiffin decided to leave for LSU and leave the Rebels without a full-time head coach shortly after unofficially securing a College Football Playoff bid.
Ole Miss will still put its best foot forward ahead of the playoff, but the business of college football stops for no one. The Rebels will have to scramble to find their next head coach, particularly after potential targets of their search found other homes in the SEC with Alex Golesh taking the job at Auburn and Jon Sumrall landing at Florida.
