Texas A&M (11-1, 7-1 SEC) is now two days removed from Friday's 27-17 road loss to rival Texas (9-3, 6-2 SEC) and will now be on an extended bye week before making its first College Football Playoff appearance, while the Longhorns are on the outside looking in after Alabama, Vanderbilt, and Oklahoma all won their season-finale matchups.

While it's smart from a fan perspective to put this loss behind you, those of us in the media will continue to point out the many flaws that led to Friday's disappointing result, starting with quarterback Marcel Reed, who produced season-low numbers after throwing for 180 yards and two interceptions after injuring his ankle in the first half.

Reed's ankle injury likely hindered his throwing motion and possibly his late decision-making. Still, the lack of success on the ground, combined with a defense that collapsed in the second half after holding the Longhorns to 3 points at halftime, decided the game late in the fourth quarter.

This loss will serve as a learning opportunity for a team that had yet to taste defeat this season before stepping onto Darrell K. Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium. It will now have three whole weeks to prepare for what is assumed to be a first-round home matchup in Kyle Field on December 19-20.

After the loss, Texas A&M unsurprisingly dropped in the latest US LBM Coaches Poll, falling to No. 7 ahead of Tuesday night's CFP rankings reveal.
