Photo: Why Kylian Mbappé’s Real Madrid opener was disallowed vs Girona

Real Madrid were left reeling by a disallowed goal late in the first-half of their meeting with Girona.

Images of precisely why the strike was ruled out, however, have since come to the fore online.

Xabi Alonso’s troops are of course currently locked in action, in a La Liga meeting with Girona at the Estadi Montilivi.

As the interval approached in an underwhelming opening 45 minutes on the part of the visitors, they thought they had opened the scoring, courtesy of star frontman Kylian Mbappé.

Following a VAR check, however, the Frenchman’s strike was subsequently disallowed.

On first viewing, the Real Madrid faithful could not quite understand why, but ensuing replays of the incident made as much clear.

As showcased below, just before slotting home into the Girona net, Mbappé accidentally touched the ball with his hand:

Los Blancos’ woes have since been added to yet further, after Azzedine Ounahi sent Girona into the break a goal to the good.
