With much of the Power 4 starting to fall into place, jobs at Group of 5 programs will come into focus this week.

On Sunday, Coastal Carolina announced it was firing head coach Tim Beck after posting a 6-6 regular season. Defensive coordinator Jeremiah Johnson was named as the interim head coach for the Chanticleers bowl game.

"After a comprehensive review of our entire football program and its trajectory, I've determined a change is needed moving forward," Chance Miller, vice president for intercollegiate athletics and university recreation said in the announcement. "We are grateful to Coach Beck for his efforts the past three seasons.

"We certainly wish Coach and his family well in their future endeavors. Our expectation for this football program is to win the Sun Belt conference championship and compete for a spot in the College Football Playoff, and that will guide us in our search for our next head coach."

Beck went 20-18 overall and 13-11 in Sun Belt play during his three seasons at Coastal Carolina. The Chanticleers lost the last three games of the season, including a 59-10 defeat to James Madison on Saturday.

Beck was a longtime assistant at Power 4 schools before taking over at Coastal Carolina. He was the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Nebraska from 2011-2014 before taking the co-offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coaching gig at Ohio State in 2015.

Beck left OSU to coach as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach for Texas from 2017 to 2019. He coached just the Longhorns quarterbacks in 2019. He took the offensive coordinator gig at NC State in 2020.
