Joe Mazzulla is hacking in-game scouting for the Boston Celtics

Joe Mazzulla has earned a reputation for his outside-of-the-box approach to coaching. The Boston Celtics' championship-winning coach continually looks for ways to innovate or give his team an additional edge, both on the floor and psychologically. The results speak for themselves, as even this season, when the Celtics aren't expected to be a competitive team, they're defying expectations with some gutsy performances and impressive wins.

Nevertheless, Mazzulla's commitment to playing the math game and generating a high volume of quality three-point attempts continues to be a pain point for sections of the Celtics fanbase. Fortunately, his approach works, and with wins comes job security, which is why he continues to double down on his approach.

In a recent video from the "Dorian Group 82" YouTube channel, the host discussed a recent interview Mazzulla did, where he admitted to having someone who watches how opposing players interact with their coaches on the sidelines, during timeouts and before and after games. Mazzulla noted how the player's body language can give you an insight into how to approach matchups, etc. The host then explained why Mazzulla's "spying" is a smart approach and how it likely gives Boston a slight advantage during games.
