By Rowan Fisher-ShottonShareNewsweek is a Trust Project memberThe Buffalo Bills entered halftime against the Pittsburgh Steelers down 7-3 after a mistake‑ridden first half and in need of a spark.
The response was immediate: a fumble recovery, an interception, and a late third‑quarter touchdown pushed Buffalo ahead 16-7 entering the final frame.
Less than a minute into the fourth, Josh Allen scrambled for an eight‑yard touchdown to extend the lead.
However, not only did the play help swing momentum, but Allen also set the NFL record for the most career rushing touchdowns by a quarterback, his 76th, surpassing Cam Newton’s mark of 75.
Allen tied Newton with a three-TD day against Tampa Bay in Week 11; since then, the chase has become a weekly storyline—until today.

Newton is a former NFL quarterback who won the 2010 Heisman Trophy and national championship at Auburn before being the No. 1 overall pick in the 2011 NFL Draft.
He was the 2015 NFL MVP and led the Carolina Panthers to Super Bowl 50, finishing his 11-year career with 32,382 passing yards and 194 passing touchdowns, along with 5,628 rushing yards and 75 rushing scores.
However, his lasting legacy will be as an all‑time great dual‑threat quarterback, standing as one of the defining figures of a generation that prizes QBs who can finish drives with their legs as well as their arm.

Entering the weekend, Allen and Newton were locked at 75 career regular-season rushing touchdowns.
Allen didn't add to that total in Week 12 against the Houston Texans, finishing 24-for-34 for 253 passing and two interceptions, but just 20 rushing yards and zero rushing scores.
However, after Sunday's 26-7 win over the Steelers, Allen now stands atop the list as arguably the greatest dual-threat quarterback in NFL history.
Looking ahead, protecting Allen and keeping the offense balanced will be critical as Buffalo closes out a schedule that includes Cincinnati, a trip to New England, Cleveland, and late tests against Philadelphia and the Jets.
