Several masked and armed people show up at the Black Spot in It: Welcome to Derry episode 6's ending moments. They seemingly get to know that after escaping from Shawshank, Hank ended up seeking shelter in the same spot. Since most white people in the town believe that Hank killed the children at the theater, they want him to be punished for what they believe he has done.

Owing to this, when the justice system fails to give him what they think he deserves, they seemingly take justice into their own hands and set out to punish him. Little do they realize that they are all being influenced by Pennywise. With this sequence, It: Welcome to Derry seemingly reveals the events that led to the dark night when the Black Spot was burned to the ground by the supremacist group, the Maine Legion of White Decency.

Mrs. Kersh's Periwinkle History & Motives In It: Welcome To Derry Episode 6 Explained

Madeline Stowe as Mrs. Kersh in IT: Welcome to Derry

When Lilly visits Mrs. Kersh in episode 6, she finds everything from clown costumes to Pennywise's pictures in her attic. This makes her realize that Mrs. Kersh has been dressing up Periwinkle and haunting them all this while. Realizing that her secret is out, Kersh reveals her father used to perform as a clown named Pennywise, but she lost him at a very young age.

However, when she started working as a nurse at the Juniper Hill asylum, she started hearing many kids claim that they saw a man dressed as a clown. This made her believe that her father had somehow returned and was trying to communicate with her. She even unknowingly got one child killed only to be able to find the truth about the clown.

Realizing that she could be of help, Pennywise seemingly tricked her into believing that her father was still out there trying to be with her. Mrs. Kersh even indirectly confesses to Lilly that she has been sacrificing children to Pennywise only to be able to see her father again. In the episode's final moments, she dresses up as Periwinkle again as she seemingly sets out to trick more children and lure them into Pennywise's wrath.

Dick Hallorann's Box & What Pennywise Does To It Explained

When Leroy visits Dick Hallorann in It: Welcome to Derry's episode 6, Hallorann tells him about his "shining" powers and reveals how he was once able to see the dead. However, he put a hold on his own ability by locking it in a metaphorical box. By getting inside his head, Pennywise somehow accessed that box and opened it again.

This explains why Hallorann sees Pauly's spirit in It: Welcome to Derry's episode 5 moments after he dies. It is hard not to believe that Pennywise also sees Hallorann as a threat. The being has probably never encountered a human with such potent psychic abilities and is trying to warn him by showing him what it can make him do.

If Hallorann manages to get a hold of himself and agrees to team up with Leroy, he might be the only character in the series who would be able to stop Pennywise before it is too late for Derry.

Why Hallorann Wants Nothing To Do With Ronnie's Father

The Dick Hallorann most viewers know from The Shining and Doctor Sleep is more of a heroic character who looks out for Danny and his family. In The Shining, he even puts his life on the line to protect the Torrance family. It: Welcome to Derry, however, presents a younger and more morally ambiguous version of him.

Hallorann in the HBO series blindly conforms to his senior officers' orders and helps them uncover the evil force that could completely destroy Derry. It: Welcome to Derry will seemingly walk through his catharsis, highlighting how his experiences in Derry and encounters with Pennywise ultimately make him a more morally righteous hero.
