Is This Cryptic Statue A Clue About The Elder Scrolls 6? Fans Are Investigating

A new teaser has been heavily linked to The Game Awards, and The Elder Scrolls fans are rushing to figure out what it means, if anything.

I still can't believe that The Elder Scrolls 6 was revealed in 2018, and that Skyrim came out in 2011. Bethesda is no stranger to long development cycles, but many fans have cited TES6 as a modern example of a game that was announced too soon.

That said, fans are relentless when it comes to any kernel of news, whether it's straight from the mouth of a Bethesda spokesperson like Todd Howard, or the most obscure of teasers. That includes this recent social post on X from Geoff Keighley, who is likely getting fans worked up for the upcoming Game Awards broadcast.

Fans Are Always Ready For Signs Of Life

Over on X, Geoff Keighley has whipped fans into a frenzy with a mysterious statue in Joshua Tree, California, adorned with various demon-like figures. Over on Reddit, fans have visited the statue, and some claim that it's directly related to The Elder Scrolls 6. Select users see the similarities between the statue and the Seekers, a type of Daedra in Elder Scrolls lore.

However, not everyone is buying it. Elder Scrolls fans as a whole are fatigued given how long it's been since the last substantial update, and we haven't even seen extended footage of the game yet. As Reddit user Egonomics1 puts it: "TESVI [The Elder Scrolls 6] is such a myth that this sub has resorted to...delirium in place of an actual trailer." This is what happens when you announce a game in 2018 and don't show anything for it for over seven years.

Another user, Scytian, explains: "So that basically confirms it's not TES related, none of these 'demons' resemble any TES, they look more like standard undeads/demons from DOOM or Diablo, it's most likely not DOOM related."

Keep Those Expectations In Check, Though

It Might Not Be Elder Scrolls After All

In all likelihood, this teaser is not connected to The Elder Scrolls 6. Fans have already posited strong connections to God of War; however, this might be a teaser for the next Diablo expansion. It also fits the type of thing The Game Awards would hype up: a product for an existing game.

Whenever we get more concrete info on The Elder Scrolls 6, fans will be waiting patiently, amid initial disappointment at the silence following the announcement. When the game is actually out, especially since an Xbox Game Pass release is a given, it'll likely be a hit. Microsoft and Bethesda are probably hoping for it to be bigger than Skyrim even (in part so they can remaster it multiple times), so we'll get plenty of hype and teasers when the time is right.
