Manchester United have been given a clear hint about their chances of re-signing one of their academy graduates, who has become a massive hit in Serie A.
Well, in the summer of 2024, the Red Devils sanctioned Scott McTominay‘s move to Napoli in a £25.7 million deal.

McTominay a hit in Italy
In his maiden season with the Partenopei, McTominay featured in 34 league games, scoring 12 goals and providing six assists. His 18 goal contributions proved pivotal as Napoli clinched the Serie A title.
His influence did not go unnoticed. McTominay was crowned Serie A MVP for the 2024/25 season and earned a place in the Team of the Season.

Carrying that form into the current campaign, he has already registered five goals and three assists in 17 appearances across all competitions, a fine start that has only enhanced his reputation.

Unsurprisingly, his exploits have attracted attention back in England. Everton, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur have all been linked, while United themselves have been tipped to explore the possibility of re‑signing him.
With speculation swirling, many have wondered whether the 28‑year‑old favours a Premier League return.
McTominay drops a telling hint
A clear answer may lie in McTominay’s own words. Speaking after being crowned Serie A Player of the Year 2025, he said, as per The Sun:
“It’s sensational, it’s incredible to be here and win this award. Thank you to everyone, the team, the staff, and my teammates.”

“My bond with Napoli is special; there are so many special places here. Coming to Napoli was an easy choice; I came to the right place.”
Clearly, McTominay feels at home at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium. He believes Naples is where he should be playing his best football.
Perfect for Amorim, but…
INEOS may have considered bringing him back to Old Trafford, particularly given Ruben Amorim‘s midfield’s craving for dynamic, athletic profiles that McTominay embodies.
However, with the player himself making it clear he is settled in Naples and convinced that is where he belongs, United would be wise to look elsewhere. At the very least, his latest admissions spared the club from an unnecessary and prolonged transfer saga.
