LEXINGTON — New Kentucky football coach Will Stein reportedly has made his first staff hire.

According to a report by Dave Campbell's Texas Football website, UK will hire Justin Burke as its offensive coordinator. Burke has served as Texas-San Antonio's OC the past three seasons. Burke took over as the Roadrunners' playcaller when Stein departed for the same position at Oregon.

Stein and Burke are from Kentucky, then played together at Louisville.

It wouldn't just be a return to his home state for Burke; he'd be back in his hometown. He's from Lexington. And he was a star quarterback at Lexington Catholic. He was the state's Gatorade Player of the Year as a senior and went on to become a finalist for the Gatorade National Football Player of the Year award.

During his time as Lexington Catholic's signal caller, he compiled a record of 34-5, completing 61.2% (538 for 879) of his passes for 8,770 yards, with a streak of 37 straight games with at least one touchdown pass.

En route to powering the Knights to a 3A state title in 2005, Burke tossed 62 touchdown passes (against just six interceptions) and had 3,789 yards passing to go along with 471 yards and seven scores on the ground.
