LaDamion Guyton made headlines more than once in 2025. He opened the year as the No. 1 prospect in the initial 2027 Rivals300, then surprised many with a summer visit to Texas Tech before committing to the Red Raiders right before his junior season. During the fall, the five-star EDGE from Savannah (Ga.) Benedictine Military School reclassified to the 2026 class. Despite the attention and shifting timelines, Guyton remained locked in with Texas Tech, and now he’s officially signed.

It’s a massive addition for Joey McGuire and the staff in Lubbock.

Guyton admitted he didn’t know much about Texas Tech until visiting this summer, but that trip changed everything.

“The best thing about the visit was just feeling at home,” Guyton told Rivals. “I wanted to get away, try something new — and the people there made it easy. The people make me feel like family. You can tell what’s real and what’s fake, and they’re real at Texas Tech. It felt like family. Nothing weird, nothing forced — it is all natural with them.”

Georgia was his childhood dream school and the first program to offer, but the Red Raiders made an impression the moment they entered the picture.

“As soon as they offered, they came strong,” Guyton said. “Coach CJ Ah You has been consistent — he treats me like one of his own. He’s got a plan for me, and a plan for his players. He’s really smart and I know he can help me a lot.”

Head coach Joey McGuire, defensive coordinator Shiel Wood, and general manager James Blanchard also played major roles in sealing the commitment.

“Coach McGuire cares about his players — every coach there does. They have something going on. The energy in the program is real, and it’s growing.”

Guyton plans to enroll in the summer.

Scouting Report

The early favorite as the top EDGE prospect in the 2027 cycle. Explosive, powerful pass rusher with elite bend around the edge at an early stage. Flashes high-end first-step quickness. Stays very low while running the arc, dipping his shoulder to shirk offensive tackles. Converts speed to power with ease. Also shows early signs of good hand usage, quickly disengaging on contact. Plays with a high motor and pursues plays from sideline to sideline. Productive in his first two varsity seasons at Savannah (Ga.) Savannah Christian, totaling 33 tackles for loss while playing alongside Five-Star Plus+ defensive lineman Elijah Griffin. Transferred to Savannah (Ga.) Benedictine Military for his junior season. Can improve his finishing ability in the backfield, as his ability to disrupt doesn’t always manifest in dominant stats. Length and frame are average for the position.
