Good morning everyone! Some major dominoes are starting to fall in the first week of December, and it’s really starting to feel like the offseason now. Let’s get to all of the latest news.

In Mariners news…

  • All is quiet on the Mariners’ front as the Winter Meetings fast approach…

Around the league…

  • The Angels continue to be a second-chance destination for players, with the lesser Los Angeles team agreeing to a one-year, $1.95M deal with former Blue Jays star right-hander Alek Manoah.

  • Speaking of the Jays, they added another reinforcement to their pitching corps, signing righty starter Cody Ponce to a three-year, $30M deal. Ponce was the headliner among those coming over from Korea this winter.

  • The Astros also added some pitching depth, signing KBO star righty Ryan Weiss to a one-year, $2.6M contract. Weiss, who previously spent time in the Diamondbacks and Royals organizations, has never pitched in the majors before.

  • But not to worry — former top Tigers prospect Matt Manning is replenishing the KBO’s pitching reserves, joining The Samsung Lions on a one-year, $1M deal.

  • The Braves inked lefty Danny Young to a one-year big league deal. Those with particularly sharp memories may recall Young appearing in two games for the Mariners in 2022.

  • Major League Baseball has quietly assembled a “fan council” — a collective of social media influencers — to try to get them to parrot owner-friendly talking points when the CBA negotiations begin a year from now. Evan Drellich at The Athletic has the report. ($)
