PlayStation Plus Gamers Praise Underrated RPG Leaving Soon: "Give It A Shot"

This controversial RPG is leaving PlayStation Plus on December 16, and fans argue it's one of the best RPGs nobody talks about on the service.

PlayStation Plus is an incredible service with a ton of value, offering players monthly free games, a huge library full of excellent content, and unique services like the Free Trial feature that allows players to try before they buy. However, the PS Plus extensive library is updated on a rolling basis, which means games won't be available to play forever.

One such game is the action RPG from Square Enix, Forspoken, which will officially be leaving the PlayStation Plus catalog on December 16, and is highly recommended by fans as "one of the best games I've played recently" (via Reddit). Despite an inauspicious launch, Forspoken has garnered a strong player-base since its release in 2023.

PlayStation Plus Loses Forspoken December 16

Forspoken is officially getting removed from the PlayStation Plus catalog on December 16, meaning players will no longer have access to the game if they haven't purchased it. It's one unfortunate downside of the service, where unlike monthly free games which stay in your library permanently, PS Plus games are no longer accessible after being removed from the catalog.

Forspoken comes highly recommended by its fanbase, with ironfist92 lauding it as a criminally underrated game: "Production values, acting and visuals are amazing, gameplay is addictive and fun ... traversal is super fast and flexible, and the combat against enemies and bosses is just an epic power trip."

Forspoken is an action-RPG where players control Frey, a New Yorker transported to the magical world of Athia. Gameplay centers on fast, parkour-style movement, elemental spell combat, character progression, open-world exploration, unique crafting systems, and it's well worth checking out before leaving PS Plus on December 16.

After A Rough Launch, It's Earned Its Fans

At launch, Forspoken drew heavy criticism for its voice acting, writing, and the overall tone. Many players found the protagonist’s modern-slang dialogue cringeworthy and out of place in a fantasy setting. Coupled with performance problems on PC, clunky mechanics and a world that critics deemed bland, the game struggled to meet expectations.

Two years on, however, Forspoken has built a committed community that appreciates its core strengths. Players enjoy the fluid parkour mechanics, spell-based combat, and open-world exploration. Ongoing patches and quality-of-life updates helped stabilize performance and refine gameplay since its launch, and many players have grown to enjoy the game’s unique tone and atmosphere. It's well worth checking out on PlayStation Plus before it leaves for good on December 16.
