The Pittsburgh Steelers went into the 2025 season with three starting-caliber tight ends in Pat Freiermuth, Jonnu Smith and Darnell Washington. Despite that, we still expected Freiermuth to be the top target and a favorite weapon of quarterback Aaron Rodgers. This has definitely not been the case and Freiermuth has the fewest snaps of any of the three through 12 games.
Freiermuth spoke to the media on Wednesday and while he maintained his professionalism, it was impossible to miss how frustrated he is with his lack of opportunities. The Steelers passing offense has been miserable all year and offensive coordinator Arthur Smith sees no point in using the team's second-best pass catchers more to try to give the team a spark.

The Steelers passing offense is No. 24 in the league and the offense as a whole is No. 27 in yards.
