The Paranormal Activity franchise has lain dormant for a while, but a new horror maestro is about to possess the iconic found-footage series. A new report revealed that James Wan is joining a production team hell-bent on bringing the films back to life with a new installment. His involvement was spurred by the merger between his Atomic Monster banner and Jason Blum's Blumhouse Productions, which was behind the previous seven installments. For the eighth film, Paramount is also back on board to co-finance, distribute, and co-produce the feature, making it a high priority for the studio.

Getting behind Paranormal Activity is something relatively new for Wan, who has been involved in crafting some of the biggest horror film franchises in recent memory, including Insidious and Saw. Most recently, his blockbuster The Conjuring series came to an end with this year's Last Rites, which raked in a staggering $496 million worldwide to become the highest-grossing installment from the world of the supernatural horror mainstay. He'll be producing alongside Blum and the director who started all the found footage horror in 2007, Oren Peli.
