A new Apple TV show was pulled from the streamer due to allegations of plagiarism, as revealed in a new report about the French thriller. Apple TV originals, much like any other streaming exclusives, offer new, compelling stories that can't be found on any other platform. However, that may not be the case with one of their (formerly) upcoming releases.

According to Apple Insider, Apple TV's new French thriller series, The Hunt, has been removed from the streaming service ahead of its planned December 3 debut. The article credits Clement Garin for reporting on how the show's creator, Cédric Anger, is being accused of plagiarizing the 1973 novel Shoot by Douglas Fairbairn for the premise of his show.

The report indicates The Hunt has the exact same premise as Shoot, with both stories involving a group of friends who go on a regular weekend hunting trip together, but who wind up targeted by other hunters. Following one group member getting injured, everyone returns to their lives, business as usual. However, they feel as though they're still being watched.

Shoot was previously adapted into a 1976 film of the same name. The book and movie's similarities to The Hunt have resulted in Apple TV shelving the series until an investigation can be conducted. Production company Gaumont released a statement to Variety about the series' plagiarism allegations, explaining the seriousness of the accusation and how it's being handled:

The broadcast of our series ‘The Hunt’ has been temporarily postponed. We are currently conducting a thorough review to address any questions related to our production. We take intellectual property matters very seriously.

According to the original report, Apple didn't learn of the plagiarism accusations until after heavy promotion of the show. It's also been explained cast and crew aren't allowed to speak about the series. While the streaming crime thriller has been pulled, it begs the question of what should be done about the project if the allegations ring true.

There's no word on what Apple or Gaumont plan to do if they find the plagiarism accusations are verifiable. Shoot's premise is somewhat different, following a hunting party who kill a member of a rival hunting party in self-defense. The protagonist, Rex, becomes convinced the men will come for them, and returns to the scene of the crime, seeking confrontation.

This isn't the first time in 2025 Apple TV pulled one of their shows. In September 2025, crime thriller The Savant was pulled from release, with no explanation given. However, due to the series' premise about Jessica Chastain's lead infiltrating online hate groups, its postponement was speculated to be in response to the assassination of right-wing political activist Charlie Kirk.

Despite some differences, Shoot and The Hunt do share a similar premise from the outset. Depending on what Apple TV and Gaumont's investigation drums up, the show could face a delay, like The Savant, or an outright cancellation. However, with the investigation just beginning, its fate likely won't be decided for some time.
