It is official. The Kyler Murray is over. The Arizona Cardinals announced his release after the start of the new league year on Wednesday, making him a free agent for the first time in his career.
It was largely a financial move. They are on the hook for the $36.8 million in guaranteed money in 2026, but because he was cut before March 15, they avoided paying him another $17 million that also triggered salary guarantees for 2027.

Murray was Offensive Rookie of the Year in 2019 and selected to the Pro Bowl in 2020 and 2021. He led the Cardinals to the playoffs in 2021. But his final record with the team ended up 38-48-1.
The Cardinals say goodbye
The team issued a couple of farewells on social media, one with a quote from general manager Monti Ossenfort.
What's next for Kyler Murray?
He is a free agent. He is planning to visit the Minnesota Vikings, and they are the favorite to sign him. It will only cost them the league minimum.

We will see where he ends up!
