Texas A&M (11-1, 7-1 SEC) dropped to No. 7 in the US LBM Coaches Poll and the AP Top 25 after losing to rival Texas (9-3, 6-2 SEC) 27-17 on Friday night, as the Aggies will now wait and see how far they drop in the College Football Playoff Rankings, which will be released on Tuesday night.
After finishing 11-1 and 7-1 in SEC play, the Aggies are guaranteed a spot in the CFP, but will drop from their No. 3 ranking, likely falling to the 5, 6, or even the seven spot, which would mean hosting a first-round game in Kyle Field on December 19 or 20. However, depending on the outcomes during Championship weekend, if No. 1 Ohio State defeats Indiana and Georgia beats Alabama, Texas A&M still has a shot at earning a top-4 seed.

Friday's game wasn't even close to being the biggest news of the weekend, as Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin has reportedly signed a massive deal with LSU to become the Tigers' newest head coach, penning a, well, Kiffin-esque send-off that includes a complaint that Ole Miss' AD won't let the departing coach to lead the Rebels into the CFP, as defensive coordinator Pete Golding was named the program's permanent replacement.
Elsewhere in the SEC, Alabama, after defeating Auburn in the Iron Bowl, will play Georgia in the SEC Championship Game. Still, unless the Crimson Tide wins by double digits, I can see Alabama ending up as the 10-seed in the CFP.
