Warning: Spoilers ahead for Stranger Things, season 5, volume 1Stranger Things season 5 has officially begun with the release of Volume 1 on November 26, and fans are already clamoring for more. Potentially leaked set photos reveal two characters whose fates have yet to be determined, but these photos could be the answer.
In images shared across X, Stranger Things characters Jim Hopper (played by David Harbour) and Mike Wheeler (played by Finn Wolfhard) are having a heart-to-heart in the middle of town.
Hopper is seen sporting his police chief uniform once again, and what makes fans positive these photos are from season 5 is due to the film Indiana Jones: The Last Crusade is playing in the "local" theater and was released in 1989, two years after the year Stranger Things 5 is set in.
Mike looks shocked in Stranger Things season 4
Hopper was seen in his police uniform up until season 3, before his stint in a Russian prison. It would seem unlikely, considering the events of Volume 1, that Hopper would have time to dust off the sheriff’s badge. Mike is looking downcast and serious during the conversation with Hopper, which could provide insight into someone close to him, either being extremely hurt or perhaps dead.
Despite the set photos, it’s still uncertain who will survive the brutal ordeal that’s taking place in the fictional town of Hawkins. It would mark the first time a main protagonist met a gruesome ending, as Dacre Montgomery's character, Billy, and Sean Astin’s character, Bob, were not central to the heroes of Hawkins team.
Fans were close to a central character’s death in season 3 when it was suggested Hopper had been evaporated. Luckily or not so luckily, he was taken away to prison and had to plan his escape.

However, if these images are indeed true, then it’s highly likely Hopper and Mike survive the events of Stranger Things season 5 and Vecna’s dastardly plans for Hawkins. During Volume 1, episode 4 titled "Sorcerer," Mike’s friend Will Byers (played by Noah Schnapp) discovers he has powers and saves his friends from demogorgans.
The major plot points for season 5 have largely been kept under wraps by creators, the Duffer Brothers, but they have stated Volume 2 will focus on Vecna’s memories, what the Upside Down is, and why Will and Holly were taken by Vecna to begin with, in an interview with Deadline.
Volume 1 of Stranger Things season 5 is now available on Netflix. Volume 2 is set to release on December 25, with the series finale coming to Netflix on December 31.
