Taylor Sheridan's impending Paramount+ exit might be unstoppable, but his impact on the streaming service cannot be understated. At any given time, one or two of his shows are among the service's top 10 most-watched, cementing his status as a prolific multi-hyphenate. However, his shows have not always been met with acclaim, especially by critics. Mayor of Kingstown remains Sheridan's lowest-rated Paramount+ drama with a 53% on the review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes. However, this low critical score has not stopped the gritty crime drama from enthralling viewers with its intriguing tales of violence in Kingstown. The series remains a fan favorite worldwide, including on Paramount+ in the US. From Albania to Indonesia and the UK, the series remains one of the most-watched on many local streaming services.

Mayor of Kingstown's low critical score is primarily due to the abysmal first-season score. Critics remained largely unimpressed by Mike McClusky's (Jeremy Renner) fixer persona as he tried to keep his town from collapsing under its own weight after his brother's death. The season is currently rated 33%. The second did not fare much better, garnering a 50% score. Better, but it did little to improve the show's reputation. Season 3 recently premiered, turning the show's tide. Critics lauded it, as reflected in the 77% score it currently boasts. In his review, Collider's Jeff Ewing praised the season for leaning into what makes the show interesting while injecting the story with some new blood. Ewing wrote:

"Everyone has an agenda, the danger is heightened, and characters have a reason to be afraid of multiple rhetorical sharks swimming in the waters. It's a well-crafted season, anchored by solid performances, including newcomers [Edie] Falco and [Lennie] James. Part of Mayor of Kingstown's success this go-around hinges on Sheridan and [Hugh] Dillon allowing the show's characters to face genuine danger and suffer the consequences, which results in several surprising outcomes in an ultimately top-shelf Season 4."

What Happens in 'Mayor of Kingstown' Season 4, Episode 7?

New episodes of Season 4 continue on Sundays, and next week's episode features more moves. "Mike hatches a plan to grant Kyle's (Taylor Handley) freedom and saddles Ian (Dillon) with an agonizing task. Moses (James) makes a play that sparks brutal consequences for cartel leadership. Callahan (Richard Brake) explores new avenues to get to Mike," the episode's logline teases. Will Mike succeed? What has Callahan planned? Watch Mayor of Kingstown Season 4, Episode 7 "My Way," on Paramount on Sunday, December 7, to find out.

Stay tuned to Collider for more updates.
