Gary Neville has claimed that Chelsea have ‘no chance’ of winning the Premier League title.

The Blues seemingly proved they deserve to be taken seriously in the title race after holding Arsenal to a 1-1 draw with ten men last weekend.

But Enzo Maresca’s side produced one of their worst performances of the season at Leeds United on Wednesday, losing the away game 3-1.

Jaka Bijol scored an early goal for the Whites before Ao Tanaka doubled their advantage on the stroke of half-time.

Pedro Neto pulled one back after the break, but Dominic Calvert-Lewin put the game to bed with a 72nd-minute strike.

The defeat leaves Chelsea nine points behind Arsenal in the league table, promoting former Manchester United star Neville to rule them out of the title race.

“I don’t think they can win the title. In fact, I don’t think they’ve got a chance,” Neville said on Sky Sports.

“Chelsea do have some gaping holes when you see title-winning teams. They will be in the top four or five, no problem, but when you talk about winning the league, they are short in goal, short at centre back and short up top.

“Their centre forwards, centre backs and goalkeepers aren’t good enough to be title winners.

“Chelsea’s team is well built, it’s got an incredible amount of talent, but the centre-backs tonight were poor in every way.

“The goalkeeper [Robert Sanchez] is not good enough to be a title-winning goalkeeper, and then at centre-forward, they [Delap, Guiu] are good players, but they’re not at the levels that are required to win Chelsea a title.”

While the Blues slipped up at Leeds, Arsenal sealed a 2-0 victory over Brentford to move five points clear at the top.

Mikel Arteta made three changes to the team that drew with Chelsea, but goals from Mikel Merino and Bukayo Saka helped them to a comfortable win at the Emirates Stadium.

Manchester City also prevailed in a nine-goal thriller at Fulham earlier this week, with Phil Foden netting a double.

Despite the 5-4 victory, defensive concerns remain for Pep Guardiola’s side who have kept just one clean sheet in their previous six top-flight games.

City were leading 5-1 early in the second-half following Erling Haaland’s 100th Premier League goal, but then shipped in three goals to come close to dropping points at Craven Cottage.
